Printer Setup – 3″ Thermal (Windows)

In this article, you will learn how to setup a printer on Windows. To access the settings, click on the System Settings option available at the bottom-left on your screen. Now select Users.

Plug in Printer

  • Plug USB cable into the computer and printer 
  • Plug power cord into the wall and printer 
  • Turn on the printer so the power light is solid  (printer models may be different the what is shown below)

Setup Printer in Windows

  • Click on Settings

  • Click on Devices

  • Click on Printers & Scanners

  • Click on Add Printer or Scanner

This is where things can be different based on the type of printer you are installing. If you are using the POS terminal you should see one printer which is already installed. The printer model number typically looks something like this K144HS0. If you have a Citizen Printer you might see it already installed typically starring with a C-#### or CT-####. 

If the citizen printer is not installed, click Add Printer or Scanner. If it is installed be sure that there are no errors and the drive is up to date.  You can use this link to download the Citizen Driver for your printer. 

Printer Settings

  • To test your printer go into the printer and click Print a test Page


    If using the POS-X system, the printer name should look like this K144HS0

User Setup

  • Go into System Settings

  • Click to Add Staff for a new user

  • Click Edit to modify a current user

Printer Windows
  • Select the tab for Users Settings.

  • Turn on the Thermal Printer Setting

  • Select the Thermal Printer option (with or without the Cash Drawer)

  • Select the qzTray Driver type and click Windows, OSX or Linux to download the file –

  • Finally make sure your printer name matches exactly what is in your computer printer settings. (reference printer name from above)

At the Users page, click on the Edit Users and a pop-up window will open.

Install Java

Go to Java.com and install Java on your computer if not already installed

Install qzTray

Download qzTray

After downloading and installing the software, you will find it added in your quick start applications.

Click the printer icon and select the option Automatically Start

Once installed you can go into the Software 4 Schools application and test out your printer.
